The Great Indian Modern MASTERS

As we continue our journey of artistic evolution at Cosmic Heart Gallery in our 13th year, it brings me immense joy to present “The Great Indian Modern MASTERS.”

In curating this prestigious exhibition, I am reminded of how these luminaries form the bedrock of our artistic universe. Just as the Earth would be adrift without gravity, the world of art would be incomplete without their guiding brilliance.

Welcome to “The Great Indian Modern MASTERS,” a celebration of the timeless genius of India’s most influential modern artists. This exhibition pays hommage to four pillars of the Progressive Art Movement—Masters who redefined Indian modern art.

Through watercolour, pencil, pen and ink on paper, their artistic genius unfolds. M. F. Husain’s bold narratives reflect a deep engagement with India’s cultural heritage, while F. N. Souza’s unflinching exploration of unfiltered forms challenge convention. V. S. Gaitonde’s meditative minimalistic abstract compositions distil art to its purest essence, and S. H. Raza’s vibrancy bridges Indian philosophy with universal expression.

Together, their legacies form the foundation of Indian modern artistic identity. These visionaries have not only shaped the landscape of Indian art but have also left an indelible mark on the global art narrative.

We invite you to immerse yourself in their artistic brilliance  and experience the power and beauty of their masterpieces.

As a renowned international spiritual painter,  I wanted to pay a tribute to The Great Indian Masters of which I have always considered Raza as my Art Guru since I met him in 1992.

When I finished painting this golden sun in the severe winter of good old England, I thought to myself, who cares about how an artist lived or died, who cares about the agony and ecstasies of being an artist.

All that matters is not the value of his art but the price his art commands. This has been the story of our very own Indian modern artists and one day it shall be my story too.

So is I decided to pay a hommage and dedicate this bright, golden, warm, massive sun to our Masters who are long gone, but whose art still burns bright in the Cosmic Heart Gallery and in the Cosmic Art World.

We pondered over the trajectory of Indian art realizing that without the Great Indian Masters, its history might have been quite different.

Artists, collectors, connoisseurs, and lovers of art all find themselves a part of this ongoing journey.

So, we chose to immerse ourselves in this vast and dynamic river, flowing towards the boundless ocean of artistic expression. Why resist the natural flow of creativity, inspiration, and cultural wealth?

Cosmic Heart Gallery
A Legacy of Art, Vision, and Impact

A sanctuary of creativity in South Bombay, Cosmic Heart Gallery is a space where art transcends time, culture, and geography. Founded by Jalpa H Vithalani in 2012, the gallery has curated over 300 transformative exhibitions, fostering artistic excellence and global cultural exchange.

Among its landmark initiatives is ‘Eye of the Tiger’, a powerful confluence of art and conservation. Conceptualized by Jalpa H Vithalani, this project broughttogether 200 rural artists from Sawai Madhopur to create 100 breathtaking works, advocating for tiger conservation and sustainable livelihoods. The exhibition has gained national recognition, travelling to The Indian Museum, Kolkata, for its historic 210-year celebration, where Jalpa’s own evocative tiger paintings were showcased and marked her debut as an artist alongside these masterpieces.

Beyond exhibitions, Cosmic Heart Gallery is a movement, collaborating with institutions like J.J. School of Art, Iran Culture House, and the Consulate General of Argentina, and representing India at prestigious forums such as the United Nations and Art Bahrain Across Borders under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa. As a member of the special Task Force of Arts for BPW International, Jalpa continues to foster peace and intercultural understanding across 100 countries.

Each exhibition is a meticulously curated experience, breaking barriers of language and geography to foster a universal dialogue through art. With an unwavering belief in art as a force of transformation, the gallery continues to shape narratives, elevate spaces, and inspire generations.

Here, art is not just displayed—it is experienced, celebrated, and woven into the fabric of history.
